We landed safely in Ethiopia Sunday, dropped our luggage off and headed to the Orphanage to meet our beautiful daughter. It was so surreal, after looking forward to this day for so long, sitting in the room waiting for them to bring her in was quite nerve wracking. It seemed like it took forever, but in reality was probably about 5 min... The nannies brought in three children. Meaza was last, and greeted us with a huge smile and a giggle! We got to spend about 2 hours with her, just sitting in the room with the other couples and their new kiddos and loving on her. She is a happy, smiley, giggly girl, and didn't cry the whole time we had her. She is quite chatty, though and babbled the whole time, while the boys were quiet. She is definitely NOT malnurished in any way, shape or form, and has huge rolls on her legs to prove it. She does have a little hair, but not a ton, and the biggest shock of all to me is that her hair is STRAIGHT!!! Several people I have talked to say it will either be wavy or have the big ringlet like curls as it grows out... it will fun to see what happens!
We had to leave our kids and go home to dinner, and were exhausted and went straight to bed by 8:30. Both of us woke up about 12:45, feeling like it was morning and then tossed and turned and read until 3:30 when we finally fell back asleep for a couple hours.
So far my overall impression is that Addis Ababa, Ethiopia is not really all that different from Portland, OR. I don't know what I was expecting, but it feels comfortable, safe, and warm and friendly. Of course we have seen some things already that you would never see in Portland...live goats tied to the top of peoples cars, a monkey on the side of the road, people laying naked in the street (oh, wait, you probably would see that in Portland!) So excited to have finally met this little girl I have waited so long to hold. :)
